Goodness is about being so full of good stuff like compassion, gratitude, and delight that it spills over onto the people in your life. When your heart is full of things that nurture and inspire you then it is easy to share Goodness with others. So often there are people in our lives that add sunshine to our days. They brighten us and we are lifted by their presence. We may feel thankful for them, but how often do we tell them? It is the way of Goodness to speak our appreciation to them.
The song “You are My Sunshine” was written in the 1930’s. The melody is a traditional Ukrainian folk melody. The song has been recorded by the likes of Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, and Aretha Franklin. It continues to live on in the hearts of so many because the lyrics are what we need in our lives and, hopefully, what we want to be. We need sunshine when the skies are gray and we need to be that for others.
Today we encourage you to bring a little sunshine into someone’s life. Smile, encourage, listen, show compassion – give them your best self. We also encourage you to let the Sunbeams in your life know what a difference they make in your world. Write a note, send a balloon, leave a message, send an e-card, and just say in words what you already feel in your heart. Who knows, it might be a ray of sunshine in their rainy day.
To encourage you and lift your spirits we have a beautiful original printed canvas created by Meri Lee. It is whimsical and joyful and just might brighten you on a cloudy day. Use it or your own version of this song to help you remember to Enjoy the Sunshine and Be the Sunshine!
“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray. You’ll never know dear, how much I love you. Please don’t take my sunshine away.”
Who brings Sunshine into your life? Tell them in some special way that they are your Sunshine!
